San Francisco Gourmet Kitchen

The 34 year old kitchen already had a great layout, but the room needed an update. The homeowners, a husband & wife, are gourmet cooks who entertain regularly and informally. We kept the basic layout, but bumped into an adjacent wall with a large chase in it to make room for a full height pantry cabinet and built in high powered microwave. A Wolf gas range replaced a slide in oven/cooktop. A larger box bay window replaced the original garden window, and the countertop extends into the bay for more space around the large kitchen sink. A larger, curved counter now seats several barstools comfortably and beautiful African granite with colorful veining replaced a beige tiled countertop. We raised the ceiling from 8 feet to 11 feet, with a raised tray detail over the kitchen prep area. Multiple layers of lighting - LEDs, recessed cans, under cabinet, hanging pendants now provide the perfect level of lighting for cooking & for entertaining. The custom made crackle glass tiles take their color cue from the granite counters and provide extra sparkle.
